Premier League 2016-17 Summer Transfers closed now
The Premier League summer transfer window has shut, and some big names including Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere, were involved in deals on deadline day on Wednesday. The window, which opened on July 1, witnessed some huge moves, none bigger than Paul Pogba’s switch from Juventus to Manchester United for a staggering £93.2 million.
Manchester United also got a new manager in the form of Jose Mourinho, who did not waste any time in luring players to the high-profile club. The Red Devils have been strengthened with the inclusions of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly. With such stars in the fray, they are going to be serious contenders for the Premier League title this season.
It is not only United, who have made some good signings, teams like Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool brought in players to bolster their squad. What makes this season, which started mid-August, much more interesting is the number of star coaches in the EPL. Antonio Conte (Chelsea) and Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) are the new faces of the EPL.
These coaches have brought players, who would fit into their style of playing. Chelsea signed five players including former Blues man David Luiz for £34m on deadline day. Talking about making some late signings, Arsenal also dipped into the market quite late, and brought in Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi. But, they conducted some good business earlier, signing Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Manchester City bought John Stones for £47.5m. Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan were their other big signings. Guardiola has already taken some huge decisions, allowing Joe Hart to leave the Etihad.
Liverpool were one of the first teams to start their business, as they acquired the signatures of Sadio Mane and Loris Karius. They signed five players during the transfer window, and also showed the exit doors to some stars like Mario Balotelli and Christian Benteke.
